Update: Nigerian unions hold general strike over fuel subsidy removal

The #OccupyNigeria movement takes hold of the country.

Across Nigeria, people are protesting the removal of a fuel subsidy as the #OccupyNigeria movement grows. Protesters are also demanding an end to corruption, better quality of government and lower salaries for public officials.

The movement is also attempting to counter the belief that religion has been a major factor in the divisions and tension across the country.

In this episode of The Stream, we talk to Omoyele Sowore (@SaharaReporters), citizen journalist with Sahara Reporters; Gbenga Sesan (@gbengasesan), from Enough is Enough Nigeria; and Sean Kuti (@RealSeunKuti); musician and activist.
