What is in store for Yemen after Saleh?

New president enters as the United States announces efforts to fight Al Qaeda in the country.

Challenges lie ahead as Yemen enters a transitional phase with President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. But what has actually changed? Ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh’s family still controls security forces and the country’s new leader previously served for 18 years as Saleh’s vice president.

Also, the United States recently announced a new strategy to fight Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which has a growing presence in Yemen. What effect will these efforts have on the country’s push for stability?

In this episode of The Stream, we talk to Jeremy Scahill, journalist at The Nation, and Ala’a Jarban, a youth activist with the organisation Support Yemen.
