Rapper Brother Ali can be described as a hip hop intellectual on the fringe of the mainstream. Using his music as a call to action, he has earned the reputation of being not only a rapper but a social activist. He has received both praise and criticism for what many call provocative and controversial lyrics, where he addresses what he sees are political, economic, and social ills in the United States. He is also closely involved in the Occupy movement and comments frequently on his Muslim faith.

In this episode of The Stream, we speak with Brother Ali (@BrotherAli) about his music, political views, and Islam. Members of The Stream community also join the conversation via Google+.
