The Philippines' Department of Social Welfare and Development is experimenting with social media to track and rescue street children. The Twitter account @savestreetkids encourages Filipinos to report sightings of street kids by tweeting the location and time of the sighting. A government spokesperson also said the account would post an update on each individual report within eight hours.
According to UN estimates, the Philippines has an estimated 250,000 urban street children, 85,000 of whom live and work on the streets of Manila.
