Thousands of protesters rallied in Manila on Monday, calling for Philippine President Aquino to cancel “pork barrel” government funds.

Much of the controversy centered on the government’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), which critics say has been misused. A recent audit revealed that $141 million, dispersed through the PFAD under the previous administration, went to questionable aid groups.

Though Aquino recently vowed to overhaul the fund, protesters said his actions failed to address similar projects plagued by corruption.
