Anger over a free trade agreement with the U.S. has Colombians protesting for the eighth straight day in the streets and online. Using the hashtag #CacerolazoNacional ("national pots and pans protest"), farmers and other workers are tweeting their discontent and organising large nationwide protests that will take place today at 7:00 p.m.

What started as a farmer's strike grew to include dissatisfied teachers, miners, doctors and students critical of what they say are government privatisation policies that are making them vulnerable to market volatility. Protesters are demanding government subsidies for agricultural commodities and reduced fuel prices.
