Protests in London on Tuesday and Thursday marked a backlash to the UK’s increasingly strict immigration policies.

Hundreds of workers and business owners in London’s Chinatown temporarily closed up shop and took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting ‘fishing raids’ by the UK Border Agency. Since July, the agency has reportedly carried out 13 such raids, which business owners say are ‘fishing’ for immigrants in the country illegally.

In a separate protest on Thursday, the Southall Black Sisters protested UK immigration policy and the “go home” advertising campaign. The protests come amid debate over the immigration bill before parliament, which Home Secretary Theresa May says is aimed at “making it harder for people who are here illegally to stay here”.
