Johan Galtung is a Norwegian sociologist who
Peace Research Institute in Oslo
1959. Since then he has developed several influential theories on conflict and violence, conflict resolution and peace-building.
During his long career he has
more than 150 books and 1,500 articles on peace, conflict, economy and sustainable development. For his contributions to peace studies, Galtung was the recipient of the 1987 Right Livelihood Award, or alternative Nobel Prize.
In his work, Galtung
for the creation of a sustainable "peace-building" structure that recognises the cultural, socioeconomic and political root causes of conflict.
