Mixed-race Miss France sparks racist backlash online

Twitter users compare xenophobic comments about French-Beninese pageant queen to similar reactions against Miss America.

French Twitter users flooded the web with racist slurs after the announcement of the new Miss France, Flora Coquerel, on Saturday.

According to reports, "Miss France" was used more than one million times the night of Coquerel's victory in the pageant. Many of the top hashtags in the country reportedly were slurs over her mixed French-Beninese origins.
