On Thursday December 12, the office of the Israeli prime minister announced that it will
the controversial Prawer Plan that narrowly passed its first vote in Knesset in June. The proposed law would have
about 40,000 Bedouins from Negev in southern Israel into "recognised communities" or state-sponsored townships. The government
to create an infrastructure in Negev and eliminate illegally-built settlements. For Bedouins, their legal ownership of the land has never been recognised under the country's land laws despite having
the area before 1948.
Ex-cabinet minister Benny Begin, who is overlooking the plan,
Monday that he never presented it to the Bedouin community and did not ask for their stance on the matter.

Bye-bye #PrawerPlan . Wonder how long it'll take for the government to try to deal with Beduin land claims again. #JPostLahav Harkov

Ami Tesler, deputy head of the Headquarters of the Economic and Community Development of the Negev Bedouin,
the focus of plan is economic growth.
"The goal of all of it is to bring the Bedouin, in 20-30 years from now, to a better future," he said."Education is the most important part of it and will enable them to find work and live a modern life."aljazeera.com
Supporters said the Prawer Plan was
for Israel's weakest and poorest population, as it would improve the standard of living among the Negev's Bedouins and integrate them into Israeli society.
The state’s willingness to spend significant amounts to develop Bedouin communities, in exchange for settling the land dispute, should not be rejected out of hand. The state is committed to spending NIS 2.5 billion to on improvements to the new, or newly expanded, Bedouin communities, including for the construction of industrial parks that will provide jobs.haaretz.com
@sara_salman @AJStream for me, the #prawerplan is only a little part of a bigger plan to integrate the Negev to the CountryPierre
@sara_salman in the long time it's a good news if the state relocate and create the infrastructure necessary (schools, hospitals, etc..)Pierre
However, the plan infuriated others, sparking protest off and on-line.
@xuxana: The Bedouins are the latest victims of Israel, which wants to take over their way of life.

Some even accused the government of forcibly moving Bedouins from their home.

A Just and Practical Solution for the Unrecognized Bedouin Villages in the Negevacrionline israel
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Moshe Arens says the main problem in the Bedouin community is inadequate education. He adds that a major government effort is needed to improve education and that it will take many years to achieve their aim:
The move away from the dispersed “unrecognized villages” will happen automatically thanks to those who have acquired the skills needed for integration into Israeli society. No force will be needed. Land claims should be handled by the courts – no new laws are required.haaretz.com
