Skin lightening became a hot topic in Kenya as netizens took to social media to discuss whether fair is more beautiful. The conversation was sparked by a Friday television interview with Kenyan socialite Vera Sidika, who revealed she spent tens of thousands of dollars on her skin whitening treatment. Many voiced their opinions on Sidika’s choice using #BleachedBeauty, which has been used more than 7,500 times and became a trending topic.
Kenya’s NTV, which aired the interview with Sidika, ran a follow-up report to discuss skin lightening in Kenya, and asked people to share their thoughts using #BleachedBeauty.
