LGBT workers explain what #FairnessMeans
President Obama to sign executive order protecting LGBT federal contractors.
Members of the US LGBT community are celebrating Monday’s announcement that President Obama will sign an executive order barring discrimination against LGBT workers by federal contractors.
The announcement comes after failed efforts by the president to get Congress to pass an anti-discrimination law that would have applied to most employers throughout the country. The executive order, once signed, will protect an estimated 11 million workers nationwide from discrimination based on sexual orientation.
To celebrate, the Center for American Progress (CAP) launched the online campaign #FairnessMeans, calling on members of the LGBT community to explain what workplace protections mean to them and their families.
