Israeli court rejects Bedouin request for bomb shelter

Israel’s high court ruled Sunday that the state is not obligated to provide bomb shelters to its Bedouin citizens. The decision came after a Bedouin man was killed and his family injured when a rocket hit his encampment in southern Israel on Saturday. 

The ruling was in response to a petition filed by local Bedouin and human rights organisations that asked the state to provide mobile bomb shelters to residents in the Negev Desert. About 200,000 Bedouin call Israel home, and half live in villages across the Negev Desert.
