The Stream

No Christianity under the ‘Islamic State’?

The Stream discusses the conditions for Iraqi Christians who’ve been forced out of the city of Mosul.

When the Islamic State group took Mosul, its Christians were given some tough choices. Leave, convert to Islam or pay a tax to the Islamic State in exchange for protection. Failing to choose one of these options meant death. While most families found refuge in neighbouring cities, this is not the first time Christians have been forced out of their communities. Since the 2003 US-led invasion, waves of attacks against Christians saw their numbers in Iraq dwindle. We discuss at 1930GMT.
