The Stream

Can China keep its food scandal-free?

The Stream looks at the country’s ongoing struggle with food safety.

How much do you trust food that’s made in China?  In recent years, the country has had no shortage of food safety scares. Now officials are in the midst of investigating how rotten meat was allowed into the food supply of restaurants like McDonald’s and Pizza Hut. Critics blame an ineffective regulatory system, and the problem is spreading internationally as China’s food export industry grows. We’ll speak to reporter Steve Chao about the food safety investigation he conducted for Al Jazeera’s 101 East.
