US newspaper draws criticism for #Ferguson cartoon

Columbia Daily Tribune says image depicting protesters as looters “should be considered in context”.

A US newspaper is fending off criticism this week for publishing what some are calling a racist cartoon of the Ferguson protests in the state of Missouri. The cartoon, published Wednesday in the Columbia Daily Tribune, shows protesters marching with signs that read, “Burn Ferguson” and “No 60-inch plasma TV, no peace.”

The ongoing protests were ignited by the August 9 shooting death of an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, by a white policeman.
