Relief efforts and politics collide in #KashmirFloods media coverage

As rescue operations continue, online users in Kashmir and the diaspora criticise floods coverage by Indian media.

As flooding in the disputed Kashmir territory killed more than 400 people and displaced thousands, social media became both a source of assistance and an alternative to mainstream media coverage. Residents in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir offered differing accounts of relief efforts by the army and government in their areas.

Many argued Indian media disproportionately covered the army disaster rescue forces (NDRF) operations and offered little analysis of local efforts.
