Angry passengers prevent Pakistani officials from boarding delayed flight

‘VIP culture’ targeted online after confrontation between airline passengers and politicians.

A video of angry passengers on a Pakistani airline booting two officials off a plane went viral on Tuesday. Senator Rehman Malik and Dr. Ramesh Kumar, a member of the National Assembly, were off loaded from a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) bound for Islamabad from Karachi on Monday night.

Passengers reportedly waited more than two hours on the plane before the two officials tried to board the flight. The passengers reacted furiously, accusing Malik and Kumar of delaying the flight. The plane departed without the lawmakers. The incident has stirred debate over Pakistan’s so-called “VIP culture”, with many praising the passengers. According to PIA, the flight was delayed due to technical difficulties.
