The Stream

Is there room for objection in Israel?

The Stream examines the consequences for Israelis who speak out.

A group of reserve intelligence officers from an elite Israeli military unit are refusing to take part in actions against Palestinians. In an open letter to PM Benjamin Netanyahu, 43 reservists from Unit 8200 said they “refuse to continue serving as tools in deepening the military control over the Occupied Territories”. In response, Israeli leaders denounced the letter as “baseless slander” and vowed to treat its signatories as “criminals”. At 1930GMT, we examine the space for dissenting voices in Israel.
