‘Suspected homosexuality’ lands British tourist in Moroccan jail

#FreeRayCole campaign fights for release of UK national.

The arrest of a British tourist in Morocco on the grounds of ‘suspected homosexuality’ has prompted international outcry. Following a police search of pictures on his cell phone, Ray Cole and Jamal Jam Wald Nass were arrested on September 18. According to Cole’s family, images of Cole and Nass served as evidence at their trial and the pair was sentenced to four months in a Marrakesh prison on October 2 for ‘being gay’. Homosexuality is illegal in Morocco and may carry a sentence of up to three years.

Cole’s son, Adrian is leading a campaign for his father’s release with supporters using #FreeRayCole online.
