Canadians say they are #NotAfraidofTransWomen

Twitter users speak out for transgender rights as Senate debates a bill on adding gender identity to hate crimes protection.

Canadian transgender rights activists were outraged after conservative senators protested against adding a definition “gender identity” to the hate crimes protection bill under the Human Rights Act. Senator Donald Platt argued against the wording used in Bill C-279, saying the rights of others could be affected: “If my five-year-old granddaughter doesn’t want to be in a bathroom with a biological male, what’s her option?”

Twitter user @sophiaphotos started #NotAfraidofTransWomen in response to the senator’s statement.
