Can Canada keep out ‘barbaric cultural practices’?

Proposed law seeks to end polygamy and forced marriages among immigrants.

“Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act”. That’s the name of a new bill introduced in Canada that aims to end polygamy and forced marriages.  Proponents claim it will protect women in immigrant communities where certain traditions observed are “incompatible with Canadian values”. Critics say Muslims will be marginalised and targeted. So, should governments be allowed to pass legislation that infringe on cultural practices? We discuss at 1930GMT.
