The Stream

Sentenced

Friends and family of jailed journalists reveal how their loved ones’ sentences have changed their lives.

When Egypt locked up Al Jazeera staff in 2013, the journalists’ families were forced into an unwanted role: Political activist. Their private lives are now public campaigns for press freedom. On Monday, The Stream asks how life has changed not just for the reporters in prison, but for their friends on the outside. Join the brother of jailed Al Jazeera journalist Peter Greste, as well as freed journalist Abdullah Elshamy and his brother at 19:30 GMT.

On this episode of The Stream, we speak to:

Mohammed Elshamy @elshamyme
