Kenyan schoolchildren tear-gassed during #OccupyPlayground protest
Reports of children hospitalised with injuries after demonstration.
Police in Kenya fired tear gas at a group of protesters, including schoolchildren, during a demonstration on Monday against plans to tear down a playground.
The students, who attend nearby Langata Road Primary School in Nairobi, attempted to remove a wall erected around the playground by a land developer.
A Facebook page started by activist Boniface Mwangi says the playground was seized “by a group of known professional land grabbers acting on behalf of a very senior politician”. Kenyan MP Kenneth Okoth, who also participated in the protest, told news outlets that at least 10 students were hospitalised with injuries.
