Feminists debate the demise of #page3

British newspaper reportedly drops spread of topless models.

Twitter users both celebrated and lamented the news that the UK’s top-selling tabloid would stop its daily feature of photos of topless women.

On Monday, The Times reported that The Sun newspaper, which is owned by the same parent company, had decided to cease publishing photos of nude women on its third page. The Sun’s public relations head wrote on Twitter that the paper would neither confirm nor deny the reports.

The reported move comes after years of pressure from feminist groups, who criticised the spread as sexist and objectifying. The Telegraph added, however, that the paper will continue to show pictures of women in bras and pants.
