Malaysian magazine accused of sexism over virginity campaign

Campaign promoting girls’ sexual abstinence faces praise and criticism on Twitter.

A Malaysian magazine calling on young girls to #SaveYourDara (“Save your virginity“) has divided Malaysians. The campaign promotes sexual abstinence in order to end unwanted pregnancies.

Dara magazine’s editor reportedly said “cases of baby dumping, illegitimate children and free sex are closely related to one’s chastity”.

The two-day social responsibility campaign was launched by the National Population and Family Development Board on January 30 and targets young Muslim women.
