Update: 14 year-old Palestinian girl released from Israeli prison

Malak al-Khatib was sentenced to two months for reportedly throwing stones.

On Friday, the AFP news agency reported that Israel released jailed Palestinian teenager Malak al-Khatib. Khatib, who is 14 years old, was sentenced to two months in prison last month on charges that she threw rocks at cars in the occupied West Bank and carried a knife in her backpack. Her family denied the allegations.

Khatib’s arrest sparked outrage online and drew attention to the imprisonment of Palestinian minors in Israel.

Twitter users shared photos of her reunion with family members using the hashtag #FreeMalak.
