Students evicted after occupying University of Amsterdam building

Protesters vow to continue their fight for democratisation of school’s decision-making processes.

Police reportedly removed and arrested 46 students, who had been occupying the University of Amsterdam’s Bungehuis building to demand democratisation of the school. 

The students, who are part of an organisation called The New University (Die Nieuwe Universiteit) and some staff barricaded themselves in the humanities building on February 13. They are reportedly protesting a university decision to merge multiple bachelor degrees into one liberal arts programme, ending what they call the “specialisation” of degrees.
