Supporters #StandWithNanHui, mother facing deportation for fleeing alleged abuser with their child

US jury found woman guilty of child abduction.

Nan-Hui Jo is facing deportation from the US after being found guilty of child abduction for fleeing with her daughter from her alleged abuser. Jo, a Korean immigrant to the US, left the United States and the child’s father, Iraq war veteran Jesse Charlton, for South Korea in 2009. When she returned to Hawaii last year, she was arrested because Charlton filed charges of child abduction during her time abroad.

Jo has not seen her daughter, who now lives with her father, since her July arrest. During court proceedings, Charlton testified that he had previously grabbed Jo by the throat and pushed her against a wall. He has never been arrested for domestic violence.

A unanimous jury found Jo guilty of child abduction on Tuesday. News of the verdict spread on social media.
