Upper House unanimously clears bill to protect interests of country’s transgender community.

Trans rights advocates are rejoicing online following the unanimous passage of a transgender rights bill in India’s parliament on Friday.

“The Rights of Transgender Persons Bill, 2014” intends to ensure equal rights with aims to develop and protect India’s trans community.

 

The country’s Rajya Sabha, or Upper House, now has to wait for the Lok Sabha, or Lower House, to vote on it.
