Official mocking Mexico’s indigenous ignites Twitter fire

Electoral body head apologised for recorded comments after they went viral.

Viral audio ridiculing Mexico’s indigenous communities, led to an apology from the head of Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Cordova. The leaked audio caused outrage and led to #TuRenunciarLorenzo (You Resign Lorenzo) which was used nearly 26,000 times.

Cordova is heard, in the recording, speaking broken Spanish and mocking a past meeting with indigenous people. He says the wire tapping of the private conversation was illegal.

Below is the audio that was leaked on Tuesday. The comments were reportedly made on April 24th. [Warning: Strong language used]
