#JubileeSupportsTerror takes on Kenyan government after Al-Shabab attacks

Kenyan official triggers backlash for claiming #NorwaySupportsTerror.

Kenyans on Twitter accused their government of using social media to distract from the country’s security failures following an attack by Al Shabab on Monday. Kenyans took to Twitter criticising the Jubilee Alliance, a four party coalition established in support of Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, for not doing enough to ensure the country’s safety and security.

The backlash was prompted after a senior media official, Dennis Itumbi, took to Twitter with #NorwaySupportsTerror questioning Norway for allegedly funding terror. His argument stems from Norway’s backing of Haki Africa, a Mombasa NGO recently questioned by the government for financing ‘terror’ activities. Itumbi’s #NorwaySupportsTerror, briefly became a top trend in Kenya prior to Monday’s Al Shabab attacks where fighters claimed to have killed 20 police in Yumbis, a village north of Garissa.
