#KenyansMessageToObama: Leave gay rights off the agenda

Kenyans tell President Obama what issues they want him to focus on ahead of his Africa visit.

In anticipation of US President Barack Obama’s visit to Africa this month, some Kenyan’s are sending him a message: don’t discuss gay rights. This comes after the country’s deputy President William Ruto reportedly said on Sunday, “We have heard that in the US they have allowed gay relations and other dirty things….We will defend our country Kenya, we will stand for our faith and our country”.

Following the comments, a group of anti-gay activists, wearing “Protect the Family” shirts, took to the streets of Nairobi on Monday to support Ruto’s message. Homosexuality is illegal in Kenya.
