German school ban on ‘provocative’ hot pants sparks controversy

Twitter users question necessity and appropriateness of banning crop tops and hot pants during July heatwave.

A German school’s ban on revealing clothing during a heatwave in July sparked anger and debate. The school, which sits in the town of Horb-Altheim in southwestern Germany, issued a letter to parents that reads: “Anyone who is dressed too provocatively (for example, crop tops, hot pants…), will get a big t-shirt from the school that he or she will have to wear until the end of the day.” The letter also said the school did not intend to suppress children’s individualism but aspired to create a healthy climate for everyone.
