The Stream community discussed whether the BDS movement was effective or not:
@Nuri_ibrahim @AJStream #BDS succeeds where international diplomacy fails.Hammam Farah
@AJStream because economic and cultural pressure can force the political change necessary for justice and peace to prevail #BDSWardiamonds
I support #BDS, but sometimes it backfires against Israelis who are defending the rights of Palestinians #Israel #AJStreamMichael Oghia
Many thought the BDS movement has helped peace efforts:
@AJStream nobody expects #BDS to end Zionism, but it will place pressure on Israel to adhere to peace talk solutions/treaties.Sehri
@AJStream what the #BDS campaign has accomplished is highlighting Israeli crimes of occupation, forced displacement, violation of HR etc.Lamya et al.,
@AJStream I think the idea is that people can't rely solely on peace talks as they've failed to do anything grand in so many decades.Sehri
Others believed the movement has had a negative impact on peaceful solutions to the conflict :
@Nuri_ibrahim @AJStream The main effect of BDS is to reinforce Israel's hardliners and undermine the peace camp.Shai Franklin
@Nuri_ibrahim @AJStream BDS will not achieve peace. For Palestinians to be taken seriously they need to sort their own mess first (Hamas)Renaud Sarda
@AJStream it would hurt peace efforts had the PA fully adopted the BDS call. I think the Israeli leadership is not interested in peace.Lamya et al.,
