This week, protesters in Bangladesh and Pakistan have been taking on rising costs of education in their private institutions.
Last week, students in private universities across Bangladesh protested a government proposal for a 7.5 per cent value added tax (VAT) on university tuition fees. Hundreds of students took to the streets of Dhaka and at least a dozen were injured when the police used force against them. Many have been using #NoVATonEducation since July and August when the government proposal gathered controversy:
