Chetan Bhagat’s dig at historians lands author in hot water

Twitter users deride best-selling writer’s comments on tolerance in India.

Indian writer Chetan Bhagat fired off a series of tweets on Friday mocking historians but found himself the subject of ridicule instead.

Fifty-three historians signed a letter on Thursday critiquing what they called India’s “vitiated atmosphere…characterised by various forms of intolerance”. They joined a string of artists and intellectuals expressing concerns about tolerance in India, including scientist PM Bhargava, who recently returned an award from the government over concerns of the current administration’s “attack on rationalism, reasoning and science”.

Bhagat tweeted about the spate of criticisms against the government.
