have been called
the world's most persecuted minority. The group, an ethnic Muslim minority living in the majority Buddhist Myanmar, makes up around one million of the country's population of 50 million. Under Myanmar's 1982 Citizenship Law, the Rohingya
citizenship, essentially leaving the group stateless and vulnerable to violence and discrimination.
Activists and nonprofit groups
have repeatedly urged
the international community to intervene in what has been called a "silent genocide" against the Rohingya people. A new documentary released by Al Jazeera's Investigative Unit
what the Lowenstein Clinic at Yale University Law School says amounts to "strong evidence" of a government-coordinated genocide against the Rohingya people. The
reveals the government has been triggering communal violence by inciting anti-Muslim riots, using hate speech and hiring thugs to provoke tensions.
