Advertisements and selection criteria of maid hiring service rubs Indians the wrong way.

A maid hiring company in India is under fire, after releasing ads many deemed sexist. The company is also being accused of encouraging discrimination on their website, by allowing users to narrow down their selection of domestic workers on the basis of ethnicity or religion.

An advertisement inviting men to “gift your wife a maid” drew criticism and even some humour from many online:

 

 

The website also allows prospective employers to select “Religious preference (if any)”, which many consider to be discriminatory and offensive.
