Can Donald Trump be stopped?

Many US Republicans want to block controversial figure from being party’s presidential nominee.

On Monday, March 7 at 19:30 GMT:

US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s momentum has surged with recent victories, further cementing his place as Republican frontrunner, but also deepening divides within the party. Republican strategists, lawmakers and foreign policy experts have all made concerted efforts to stop the business magnate, who they feel does not represent their values, and would lose a general election in November.

But for all the talk, Trump’s detractors are yet to come up with a clear strategy or alternate candidate to rally around. Both Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have called for the party to unite around them, but many anti-Trump Republicans have not fully committed to either. Amid the political jockeying, some Republicans have even suggested they would vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton over Trump. Third party candidates have also been suggested, as well as a ‘brokered’ or contested party nominating convention in July.

So, what’s going on with the Grand Old Party? And how will its lack of unity affect its chances to take the White House in November?
