“Rats fleeing a sinking ship.” That’s how some of Britain’s leading politicians are being described following the United Kingdom’s shock vote to “Brexit”, or exit, the European Union.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who had campaigned for the UK to stay in the EU, resigned after last month’s result. Boris Johnson, the former mayor of London seen as Cameron’s likely successor, removed himself from the leadership contest after failing to articulate a plan to leave the EU. And Nigel Farage, another key Brexit proponent, also stepped out of the spotlight, giving up his leadership of the UK Independence Party earlier this week.
So, after a heated referendum campaign, who will actually lead Britain in its negotiation process to leave the EU?
