Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Stream guest, Kailash Satyarthi, once said that the power of youth is a wealth held in common for the entire world. The Dalai Lama holds a similar belief: that young people are the key to ending conflict. Many people agree with that theory given several of the world’s worst wars are being fought in countries with the youngest populations.
To break any pattern of violence requires strong leadership, which is why a group of young peacebuilders from around the world have converged on the Dalai Lama's compound in Dharamsala, India to learn from each other and the spiritual leader himself. The event, organised by the United States Institute of Peace, aims to give participants the practical skills and the personal resilience needed to foster peace in their home countries.
On this episode, the Dalai Lama and two of those youth leaders join us to consider how you can achieve a happy life in a world riven by conflict and turmoil.
On this episode of The Stream, we speak with:
The Dalai Lama, @DalaiLama
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet
Giannina Raffo, @Gianninaraffo
Venezuelan human rights activist
Lupai Samuel Kenyi Stephen, @lupaisambro
Executive Director, I AM PEACE Initiative
