Apple's iPhone turns five

While many celebrate the smartphone’s birthday, others point to the darker side of Apple products.

Five years ago today, Apple founder Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone at the company’s MacWorld expo. The event was called “the world’s most anticipated gadget launch” and tech enthusiasts were quick to label the new device as revolutionary.

Many fans are taking to Twitter to celebrate the iPhone. Amidst the fanfare, however, another online discussion has emerged. Some netizens are using the occasion to bring up the labour conditions at Foxconn factories, where most of Apple’s products are made.
