Noynoying: Filipinos air grievances with a meme
Netizens use internet humour to criticise President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines.Filipinos have taken a creative approach to express their grievances with President Benigno Aquino III. The meme “Noynoying” criticising the Philippines’ president has gone viral on social media. “Noynoying,” a play on words of the president’s nickname Noynoy, has come to mean procrastination or a state of being idle.
Netizens have criticised the president’s inaction on rising fuel prices, unemployment, high tuition fees, land reform, minimum wage hikes, and what many viewed as a lackadaisical response to the Sendong typhoon in December that left over 1,000 dead.
