Spin and counterspin in Syria

On social media, a war of words between the Syrian government and the opposition.

Very few media outlets have managed to gain direct access to the unfolding crisis in Syria, and most have had to rely on videos uploaded to YouTube and Facebook by Syrian opposition activists showing a population under attack. The Syrian government’s response has been to mobilise its media to counter this narrative.

In this episode of The Stream, we talk to Rafif Jouejati, spokeswoman for the Local Coordination Committees in Syria, and journalist Jane Ferguson.
