ESPN posted a headline with a racial slur on its mobile site on February 18 with a reference to Asian-American basketball player Jeremy Lin. Many were outraged that a racial slur was posted on a prominent sports website, whether deliberate or unintentional.
America, & perhaps especially NY media, have yet to be able to handle race w/o terrible puns & soft racism. #Lin http://pic.twitter.com/Z5Sn3MPEAdrian Hong
American boxer Floyd Mayweather tweeted several racially charged messages that stirred controversy about the role of a player's race in sports. He claims the media frenzy around Lin is largely due to his race rather than his talent.
Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise.Floyd Mayweather
Other countries get to support/cheer their athletes and everything is fine. As soon as I support Black American athletes, I get criticized.Floyd Mayweather
I'm speaking my mind on behalf of other NBA players. They are programmed to be politically correct and will be penalized if they speak up.Floyd Mayweather
@FloydMayweather @Karceno Again, he's in NY, winning games, been cut twice, so yes Asian is part of it but not all of it.RedZone Moss

Being half Asian, I'm not offended by Jeremy Lin's head in a fortune cookie, HOWEVER, it brings up a good point: Where do we draw the line?Diana L
Jeremy lin has inspired so much accidental racism... Broken fortune cookie with lin's face is not a good look @msgnetworksDamon Johnson
So some1 made a sign of Jeremy Lins head in a fortune cookie n said Lin is the Knicks good fortune.Apparently the cookie was a racial remarkBrittany Jones
Even tho I used to work w/ some of the good folks at msg media, using a fortune cookie in any relation to Lin was dumb...and racist.Joy G.
Recognising Lin's novelty in the NBA, this tweeter speculates whether racially infused comments will emerge when players of other ethnicities enter the NBA.
Can't wait for an Indian/Pakistani guy to enter the NBA so I can read headlines about spicy stats & him currying favor with his teammates.Kumail Nanjiani
